What is the most important information I should know about rimegepant?

Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.

What is rimegepant?

Rimegepant is used in adults to treat a migraine headache with or without aura.

Rimegepant will not prevent migraines.

Rimegepant may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking rimegepant?

You should not use rimegepant if you are allergic to it.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • liver disease; or
  • kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis).

It is not known whether rimegepant will harm an unborn baby. However, having migraine headaches may cause complications during pregnancy such as dangerously high blood pressure that can lead to medical problems in both mother and baby. The benefit of treating migraines may outweigh any risks to the baby.

It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risk.

Rimegepant is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

How should I take rimegepant?

Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if you have more than 15 headaches in one month (30 days).

Remove an orally disintegrating tablet from the package only when you are ready to take the medicine. Place the tablet on or under your tongue and allow it to dissolve, without chewing. Swallow several times as the tablet dissolves.

Store at cool room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Since rimegepant is used when needed, it does not have a daily dosing schedule. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after using this medicine.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What should I avoid while taking rimegepant?

Follow your doctor's instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.

What are the possible side effects of rimegepant?

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, rash; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

An allergic reaction can be severe, and may occur days after you have taken rimegepant.

Common side effects may include nausea.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

What other drugs will affect rimegepant?

Sometimes it is not safe to use certain medications at the same time. Some drugs can affect your blood levels of other drugs you take, which may increase side effects or make the medications less effective.

If you use any of the following medicines, avoid taking rimegepant within 48 hours after you last took the other medicine:
