Instructions

Carefully follow instructions for mixing the medicine with water or flavored syrup before use. Stir well before use.

Measure the dose of liquid medicine carefully. Use the measuring device that comes with the medicine. If you do not have one, please ask your pharmacist for help.

This medicine may be taken with or without food.

Sit or stand for 1 hour after taking the medicine. Do not lie down.

After taking other medicines, wait at least 3 hours before taking this medicine. Do not take any other medicines for 3 hours after this medicine.

This medicine will work best if you take it at about the same time every day.

Store at room temperature away from heat, light, and moisture. Do not keep in the bathroom.

Discard any unused, mixed medicine after 24 hours at room temperature.

Drink plenty of water while on this medicine.

To reduce constipation, eat high fiber foods, drink plenty of water and exercise.

Do not take this medicine with antacids.

This medicine can reduce the absorption of other medicines. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the best times to use this product.

Talk to your doctor before eating foods with large amounts of potassium. Potassium is often found in salt substitutes. Your doctor may want you to reduce the amount of these foods.

It is very important to avoid some foods while on this medicine. Please ask your doctor or nurse to provide you with a list of foods you should avoid.

If you forget to take a dose on time, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, do not take the missed dose. Return to your normal schedule. Do not take 2 doses at one time.

Drug interactions can change how medicines work or increase risk for side effects. Tell your health care providers about all medicines taken. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medicine.

Tell your doctor if symptoms do not get better or if they get worse.

This medicine contains sodium. If you are on a low sodium diet, consider this as part of your total sodium diet.

It is very important that you follow your doctor's instructions for all blood tests.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.

Some patients with weak hearts may have worsening of symptoms. If you notice difficulty breathing, weight gain, or swelling of your legs or ankles, let your doctor know right away.

Do not use the medication any more than instructed.

Call the doctor if there are any signs of confusion or unusual changes in behavior.

Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Do not use laxatives to treat constipation without speaking with your doctor first. Some laxatives may be dangerous to use with this medicine. Severe or continuing constipation can become a very serious problem.

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.

Side Effects

  • nausea and vomiting

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • bloating
  • changes in memory, mood, or thinking
  • confusion
  • coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • swelling of the legs, feet, and hands
  • fast or irregular heart beats
  • loss of movement anywhere on the body
  • muscle cramps
  • muscle pain or weakness
  • seizures
  • severe stomach or bowel pain
  • bloody or dark, tarry stools

A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
